On the 10th December 1948 the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Around the anniversary of this memorable day, human rights activists of Amnesty International all over the world collect signatures on protest letters against selected cases of human rights abuse. It has been 80 years that the first group of Jewish children arrived in London at Liverpool Station. The British Parliament had decided that 10 000 children should be saved from terror and death in Nazi Germany. On Sunday, December 2nd 2018, Amnesty groups from Berlin, Danzig, Prag, Wien and Hoek of Holland joined the Mayfair and Soho group London to commemorate this date 80 years ago. Weiterlesen
This year we tried a new format to gain funds for our group: a sponsored bike ride taking in three parks.
On 3 May 2017, some of our members took part in a high-profile demonstration organized jointly by Amnesty and Reporters Without Borders to mark World Press Freedom Day. The demonstration was on behalf of the 150+ journalists currently imprisoned in Turkey, and took place in front of the Turkish embassy on Tiergartenstrasse in Berlin.
On Sunday, 23 April, members and friends of our group ran a grand total of almost 150km around Tempelhof Airfield to raise funds for Amnesty International. That’s 2 marathons and 3 half-marathons!
